Trackers, loggers, sleep, training. The category with the most subscriptions and the least evidence.
Almost nothing important is metered, which in this category is close to unheard of. The trade is a community-submitted database and no photo estimation worth the name.
The right first app for somebody who has never tracked anything, and the right permanent app for anyone who decides at 9am instead of resisting at 7pm. The nutrient panel is thin and the photo estimate is loose.
Twenty-one days as my only food log. It is the one tracker in this category whose accuracy figure somebody outside the company has checked — and then a second lab checked again. That is the whole reason I kept it, and it is a lower bar than it should be.
It infers your actual energy expenditure from your own weight trend instead of a population formula, and does it better than anyone. You are buying the mathematics, not the food log.
Twenty years of accumulated food data and the widest measured error band of any mainstream tracker, both for the same reason. Worth it only if you eat at chains constantly and will verify every entry you pick.
Point, shoot, get a number in two seconds. The accuracy figure it advertises was produced by the company that sells it, and correcting a wrong estimate drops you into a thin catalogue.
Lab-analysed, curated entries mean one reliable record per food instead of the crowd's forty. It is the right instrument for micronutrients and the wrong one for a bowl of restaurant leftovers.
Judged as coaching it is the most developed curriculum in the category. Judged as a calorie counter it finishes last on this desk, and it costs around $209 a year.
